A new adventure-Encaustic Painting

                                                                            SOLD
I think my first experience with encaustics (wax art) was on a little vacation to Savannah Georgia 7 years ago and in the gift shop of SCAD, Savannah School of Art and Design. I just stood looking at this little piece of wax art that intrigued me. How did the student do that! I loved the depth that the wax gave the painting. And then again last year in an art gallery on another trip. Both works were sweet small landscapes. Since then I have been on the internet learning as much as I can about encaustics. And finally I decided that I have to try it! At first I tried several different ideas that I had and was very disappointed in the results and put my wax away. But I kept looking at wax postings and then tried again. There is definitely a learning curve and I am still learning. I really enjoyed this winter huddling next to the my griddle that I use to heat the wax.

The beeswax is mixed with tree resin and comes in different colors as well as I like to use oil pastels that I can mix with the wax. Every layer of wax needs to be fused to the last layer. I use a heat gun to heat and fuse the wax layers.  The look can really vary, from paintings to mixed media collages. I love mixing colors and seeing the movement that I get with the wax. So far I have sold three of my mini waxed paintings which was so exciting.

Both of these are sold as well.

This one is available in my Etsy shop and I will be listing  a few more soon.

Look at me! I'm following through with my promised post, sharing some of my new projects and in less than a year. I may actually be ready to tackle Instagram. This summer I have been playing around with making my prints into miniatures and framing them. It has been a bit time consuming but a fun project. This is the first miniatures that I have done and so far they have been well received, encouraging me to try other formats. They make a fun and unique gift idea.

Metal and glass hinged frames with your choice of chain or
velvet ribbon. I sign and date each one on the back.
I love picking out which of my prints would look best in one of
these small frames.

I have a collection of them here in my Etsy shop. Feel free to visit and let me know if you have
any questions.

So I will continue the challenge to myself. I have a few more new items that I have been working on and would love to share them here and hopefully soon.😊

Well, I guess it's time for my once a year post. How does that happen? I plan to post more often and have even been thinking about using Instagram but I don't have a very good track record. So, I will quickly show some of my newer projects. If you are interested in seeing more of my art or purchasing any of my prints, they are linked to my Etsy shop where the prices are listed.
Painting birds is still my favorite subject to paint.
The most relaxing.
I have been working on landscapes. I love the look but
they are definitely more challenging.

I have a few more projects to share but I will
challenge myself to come back soon and post them.

Fall has arrived!

I do love to celebrate the changing seasons. Fall of course is a favorite. However, even though
I don't paint many seasonal paintings, here are a few that I have done to get us in the mood.

New in my Etsy shop are Flour Sack Dish Towels. I love putting my art onto these wonderful towels.

I hope you enjoy this time of year and time of life and in all things give thanks!

Winter is here! Christmas is over but we are looking forward to possible snow and ice in two days which can lead to a lot of excitement here in Georgia. So, I will share a few of my wintery paintings in anticipation of our upcoming weather.
So let it snow!

Summer Sights

I know the end is in sight for summer but I'm not ready for it to be over. Here are a few of my paintings to help keep that summer feeling from fading too quickly.

These prints are in my Etsy shop.

So I hope that as Fall begins you will find yourself able to Bee Happy

Little Wrens

So last week, after struggling with acrylic paint, I was ready to give up. I did a couple of watercolor birds but tried acrylics this week again and felt so much more successful.  I love little wrens and I love terra cotta pots. I definitely prefer the look of a watercolor terra cotta pot vs the look of it in acrylic but both birds were fun. Sweet little brown birds!!

Acrylics

I decided to try acrylic painting. Very, very different from watercolor. I love that you can go over and fix any mistakes or areas that just aren't working and I love the use of brush strokes and the texture of the paint but I miss the lightness and magic of watercolor.

I am selling the prints of my originals in my Etsy Shop

This Little Chickadee is painted over a Blue Bird that
just would not look right.

I had fun using a palette knife for the background.
I used a palette knife to make this painting and like I said,
I love the texture and movement.

ScarletCordPaints

A little update...In 2018 I branched out and opened another Etsy shop named Scarlet Cord Paints. As a little experiment, I started selling my watercolor prints. I had gotten an urge to paint one of our daughter Martha's wedding pictures and then just kept going. Of course, then what do I do with all those paintings I want to paint? Well, the same thing I do with all the needle felting that I love doing. I sell them:)  As always it has been an exciting and sometimes frustrating experience but I am loving it.

Hello Again

My favorite room...a place for me to be organized, to be inspired and to create.

I converted the sun room into my craft room in our new home.  I still call it our new home even though we have been living here almost three years. How did that time go by so fast.
